Putco has begun embarking on its educational roadshows on the new demerit system known as AARTO. The AARTO Act comes into effect on 1 December 2025. The implementation of this legislation is being overseen by the Road Traffic Infringement Agency (ARTIA). Putco has embarked on a partnership with the organisation to offer information sessions to all employees, especially professional drivers. RTIA’s Monde Mkalipi is leading the information sessions and he says the Act is not intended to punish but to motivate motorists to drive with care and consideration.
The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) is also urging bus passengers to use seat belts saying this plays a huge role in helping to reduce serious injuries or worse, deaths during crashes. The organisation’s Acting CEO Refilwe Mongale addressed bus operators at the Southern African Bus Operator’s Association conference in Johannesburg recently.
There has been a major decline in the number of accidents caused by or involving Putco buses for at least five years.
This is due to telematics monitoring, driver workshops with support from partners such as traffic officials as well as driver refresher training. We urge you our passengers to heed the call to buckle up
